Mark and Cindy Woodard
Mark Woodard was diagnosed with “multiple-sclerosis” back in 1994. He had been working in radio for 25 years. At that time, he was the manager of a radio station in Augusta, Georgia. In 1996, the station sold and Mark was without a job. It was also in 1996 Mark received a call from Social Security, saying they would be paying him disability. Things changed for Mark at that time. He started giving tours of Augusta Georgia. The tours would last a couple of hours, afterwards he could rest. He enjoyed learning the history of Augusta and sharing it with visitors. In 2006,
Cindy accepted a job in North Charleston. She and Mark sold their house in Augusta, Georgia moving to Summerville, South Carolina.
When Mark first arrived in Summerville, he went downtown Charleston to see about a tour guide job. He found there were several jobs available. He stopped by the “tourism office” of Charleston and bought a “tour guide notebook.” Over the next several days he studied the notebook. He found the history of Charleston to be very interesting. But one question kept coming up, what about Summerville? If there was so much history here, and it overlapped with Charleston’s history, why not stay here and do tours?
